WELCOME TO THE NASSAU HUB TRANSIT INITIATIVE WEBSITEThe Nassau Hub Transit Initiative identifies and evaluates alternatives for the provision of bus rapid transit (BRT) service to address congestion and create enhanced connectivity between major destinations in the Nassau Hub area and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). The Nassau Hub, which includes the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum site, is home to multiple commercial, downtown, and institutional activity centers that will benefit from expanded transit access. The County's latest study, referred to as the Alternatives Analysis (AA) Update, examines opportunities for introducing realistic and practical transit improvements within the study area. The Nassau Hub Transit Initiative is conducted in continued cooperation with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and in accordance with FTA requirements. The proposed service, identified through the AA update, provides a natural extension of the BRT's Initial Operating Segment (IOS) identified in the 2014 Alternatives Analysis. The County has completed the Final Design documents to implement the first phase of the IOS, while design work on the second phase is pending. The AA Update identifies a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) that will extend BRT service from the IOS and connect to the LIRR Main Line. Following the selection of the LPA and with the FTA's concurrence, Nassau County will conduct an environmental review in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Nassau County is proud to release the Nassau Hub Transit Initiative Alternatives Analysis Update Report. The presentation below provides a high-level overview of the process the County undertook to identify a Locally Preferred Alternative to connect the IOS to the LIRR Mainline. The full report can be found on the Study Resources Page. Updated October 28, 2024 |
